About Tel Aviv Wind Quintet

The Tel Aviv Wind Quintet is one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in Israel today. The group was established in 2009 by five young Israeli musicians seeking to expose a broader audience to the wonderful wind repertoire, as well as commissioned works. By combining music with other art forms such as theater and movement, the Quintet also aims to build upon and expand the existing concert format.

The Quintet performs more than 50 concerts per season in prestigious venues such as the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, the Jerusalem Music Center, the Israel Conservatory, and the Tel Aviv Museum. Last season, the Quintet had three international tours in France, Germany, and China, all of them to great success and acclaim. Upcoming tours include Asia, the United States, Canada, and Germany.

The Quintet is dedicated to promoting music education. Notable projects from recent years include collaborations with participants from the Jerusalem Music Center Outstanding Players Program, workshops for young composers in partnership with the Israel Composers' League, and masterclasses in various conservatories in Israel and abroad. Special emphasis is placed on creating programming for underprivileged communities in the periphery of Israel.

In addition, the group recently collaborated with the esteemed young director Ari Teperberg on an original staged version of ‘Peter and the Wolf’ for young children. This project was hailed as a breakthrough for its unique blending of theater and music. TAWQ frequently performs programs from memory.

An integral part of the Quintet’s mission is to perform and record music from leading Israeli composers from both the younger and older generations. The TAWQ's Debut album was released at the end of 2016 and included works by Bach, Beethoven, Ari Ben-Shabetai, and Piazzolla. The Quintet’s second album, ‘LIVE,’ was released in April of 2018, and consisted of live concert recordings in collaboration with pianist Yaron Kohlberg.

The Quintet’s members are also active as soloists, working and collaborating with international orchestras and musicians such as Daniel Barenboim, Martha Argerich, and Andras Schiff.

The Quintet is supported by the Israeli Ministry of Culture. It was awarded the Eilam prize for Israeli performers (2011) as well as grants from the Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts, Haifa Arts Foundation, the Ronen Foundation, and the Israel Lottery Council for Culture & Arts.
