Dance Crash is a solidly established ensemble that draws on a slew of styles, from breakdance to ballet, impressively unifying them into a single aesthetic. There is a warrior, action film aspect to their work, but also plenty of emotional

depth underpinned by strong technique.

Think Matthew Bourne, but with a more primitive, ritualistic, streetwise attack.

The bricklayers work like mad to get the job done, but when they are unceremoniously locked out of the posh celebratory party for the completion of the road project, a powerful sense of rebellion takes hold. Things are going to change in Oz, particularly for the Wicked Witch. And you can see it and feel it in the dancing that is exceptional in its acrobatic fearlessness, freedom and precision. All in all, “The Bricklayers of Oz” lays down 75 minutes of thoroughly engaging storytelling.

Hedy Weiss, The Chicago Sun-Times

...Perhaps most remarkable about Chicago Dance Crash is its ability to manage an image that is consistently cool, yet unabashedly committed to taking risks and reaching outside its comfort zone. It seems that CDC is the little company that could – and with 13 years under its belt, and now an engagement at the Dance Center in the bag, it remains to be seen where Crash can go from here….*actual comment overheard in the bathroom: I’ve never been to a Crash show that didn’t have some sort of light up costume.

Repaving the Yellow Brick Road in the Chicago Dance Crash production of The Bricklayers of Oz…creates  an ingenious new hip-hop dance-theater piece that is so imaginative, so playfully revisionist, so of the moment in its biting social commentary, and so superbly realized by all the artists involved, that it feels like an instant classic all its own. All connections to the extreme class divide in our real world are instantly understood here, with The Skeezers finally driven to demand an end to being ‘second class citizens of Paradise’…It captivates audiences of all ages...Sophisticated enough to please any adult, and propulsive and glittery enough to captivate young audiences.
