Nicole Biggs began her piano studies at the age of 12, and at 13 gave her first public recital, a benefit concert for a hospice organization in Columbus, OH.  She has organized and performed in many benefit recitals throughout her musical career, raising thousands of dollars for various charities through her performances. 

 

She made her Carnegie Hall debut in the Weill Recital Hall in May 2006 and has performed throughout the world, including solo performances in the United States, China, Italy and England. 

 

In 2006, under the auspices of the Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Nicole performed a four-city tour of China including Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, and Shanghai. In China, she appeared multiple times on China Central Television, and consequentially was heard by millions of people.  Her performances in China included performances at the Beijing Central Conservatory, the Jin Fan Concert Hall, the Chengdu Performing Arts Center, the Chengdu Foreign Language School, and the Shanghai Conservatory.  She also collaborated in China with the world renowned Galaxy Children’s Choir. 

 

Nicole Biggs has performed in other international venues such as the Giovanni Paisello Concert Hall in Lucera, Italy, and the Piazza Polo and the Ragusa Music Hall in Ragusa, Italy.  Ms. Biggs performed last summer in Oxford, England at the Jaqueline du Pre Music Building at St. Hilda’s College associated with Oxford University.

 

She has performed at various universities across the United States including Indiana University, the University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Oklahoma Baptist University, Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Oklahoma State University, the University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University, and the University of Oklahoma.

 

Some of her recent notable performances include solo performances at the Oklahoma Music Teacher’s Association State Conference in Tulsa, the Oxford Philomusica Piano Festival in Oxford, England, the Assembly Hall in Historic Temple Square in Salt Lake City, the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, and the Fred Jones Museum of Art in Norman, Oklahoma.  She also performed the Tchaikovsky B-flat Piano Concerto with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra in the Civic Center Music Hall. 

 

She is a winner in international piano competitions, and was a finalist in the 2007 Joyce Dutka Multi-Instrumental International Competition, and was a recipient of the 2006 IBLA Grand Prize International Piano Competition’s Distinguished Musician Award.  She was a winner in the 2006 Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, and was also awarded a special Certificate of Achievement in 2006 from the Cleveland Institute of Music for her pianistic success.   Ms. Biggs was a winner in the 2008 Donna Turner Smith Piano Competition, and the 2007 MTNA/OMTA Young Artist Piano Competition for the state of Oklahoma.  She received 3rd Prize in the 2004 Amadeus 20th Century Piano Competition, and 2nd Prize in the Symphony Orchestra of Albuquerque International Multi-Instrumental Competition.  Her win in Albuquerque earned her multiple performances of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Albuquerque Symphony Orchestra.  She is the grand-prize winner in the 1999 Texas Young Artist Competition.  Her 2004 paper “How to Teach Intermediate Students the Art of Expression” won the Texas Music Teachers Association State Collegiate Student Paper Competition, and she was asked to present her paper at the 2004 Texas Music Teachers Association’s Annual State Conference in San Antonio.

 

A nationally certified teacher of music, Nicole Biggs has given presentations and lecture recitals at the College Music Society’s Super-Regional and Regional Conferences in 2008 and 2009, as well as the National Seminar for Piano Teachers in 2009.  She has a teaching assistantship at the University of Oklahoma, where she is pursuing a doctorate in piano performance and pedagogy. 

 

Her collegiate musical education began at the age of 16 at the University of North Texas, where she studied with full music and academic scholarships, earning her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance in 2004, graduating magna cum laude.  At the University of North Texas she received the Most Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Music Award as a sophomore, and was regularly featured on the Deans List.  Ms. Biggs studied on scholarship at the Cleveland Institute of Music, earning her Master of Music degree in piano performance in 2006.  She also has a certificate in piano from the Giovanni Paisello International Piano Academy in Lucera, Italy.  Her teachers include Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Emmanuella Friscioni, Dr. Steven Harlos, and Dr. Jeongwon Ham.   Ms. Biggs has also attended the Indiana University Piano Academy, where she was awarded 1st Prize in the Piano Duet Competition, and was awarded an incentive scholarship to attend the university.  She also has performed at the Las Vegas Music Festival, the TCU/Cliburn Piano Institute, the Steeger Piano Institute, and the Oxford Philomusica Piano Festival.  She has performed in master classes with pianists such as Yang Jung, Zhou Keng, Nelita True, Fernando Laires, Jerome Lowenthal, Abbey Simon, Lori Sims, Vladimir Viardo, Adam Wodnicki, Robert Mayorovitch, Tamas Ungar, Emilio Del Rosario, Jack Gibbons, Gary Grafmann, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Sylvia Wang, among others.
